THE CLUB
Written, Directed and Performed by Ira Bauer-Spector, Clay Pruitt and Kyle Stockburger
As part of the "BWT in Development" Series
In our most difficult and challenging times, the greatest gift can often be found in the power of friendship. That idea was on full display in the 1996 hit comedy The First Wives Club starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton. 20 years after the film’s release, on August 14th at the Red Spade Theater in Old Town, as part of the "BWT in Development" series, that idea will once again be put to the test in a new play entitled The Club, written, directed and performed by Ira Bauer-Spector, Clay Pruitt and Kyle Stockburger.
The First Wives Club is ultimately the story of three close friends who take separate journeys after college, but when reunited years later, they realize that together, they can create something empowering and inspiring out of tragic circumstances. The Club explores the parallels between Brenda/Annie/Elise and Ira/Clay/Kyle - these two trios of friends - and explores how the bonds of humor and love that tie them together are stronger than any distance that may separate them.
The Breakthrough Artists of The Club have dedicated their work to the memory of their moms.
