Breakthrough Workshop Theatre presents
SHE KILLS MONSTERS
Written by Qui Nguyen
Directed by Ira Bauer-Spector
A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.
Winner of the 2013 American Alliance for Theatre Education Distiguished Play Award, it fits into BWT's Season 8 theme of “Grief / Empathy / Hope.” It will be directed by Breakthrough Workshop Theatre's Founding Artistic Director Ira Bauer-Spector, and will feature a 10-person ensemble including returning Breakthrough Artists Jordan Anichini, Jett Brazeau, Emily Ince, Shaun Lim, Sophie Maretz, Tess Maretz and Jade Moujaes, as well as Megan Decker, Em Ozaki and Madeline Tulagan in their BWT debuts.
This workshop is made possible in part due to a generous grant from San Diego LGBT Pride and is being presented free of charge for one performance only at the beautiful La Jolla Riford Library.
