Breakthrough Workshop Theatre presents the 7th Annual Presentation of
DEAR HARVEY
Written by Patricia Loughrey
Original Music by Thomas Hodges
Directed by Clay Pruitt
“I am all of us.” -Harvey Milk
Extensively researched and beautifully constructed, this documentary-style ensemble play recounts the life and lasting impact of groundbreaking LGBT activist and politician Harvey Milk, as told by the people who knew him best. Spoken word combines with multimedia and music as an ensemble cast moves in and out of the identities of real-world figures whose lives were forever altered by Milk's too-short career. This spirited play reaffirms his impact and the continued relevance of his campaign towards equality, three decades after his assassination.
As an annual BWT tradition, this year’s presentation marks 10 years since the play was written. Clay Pruitt, 5-time Breakthrough Artist based in Los Angeles, returns to direct Dear Harvey, after previously participating in BWT projects The Twilight of the Golds, A Bright Room Called Day, The Bette Midler Project and BWT in Development: The Club.
The 7-artist ensemble includes returning Breakthrough Artists Nathan Bauer-Spector (BWT's Producing Director & 2017 BWT Dear Harvey Hall of Fame Inductee) and Terri Bratcher (20-time BWT Artist). It will also feature the BWT debuts of Jett Atwood, Jo Ann Atwood, Rebecca Hodges, Lori Muhlstein and Mike Spector.
The reading will be Stage Managed by BWT Founding Artistic Director Ira Bauer-Spector and Heidi Maretz (17-time BWT Artist & 2015 BWT Dear Harvey Hall of Fame Inductee).
This year's presentation of Dear Harvey is possible in part due to a generous grant from San Diego LGBT Pride and is being presented free of charge for one performance only at the beautiful La Jolla Riford Library.
